What tram would you like to see restored next?

Hi everyone,

What tram would you like to see restored next?

Nothing official, i'm just curious!

It can be a tram in store/on display, or like 166/602 etc that were restored but problems arose!

I have tried to list the trams i think will be most popular, but if i've missed your vote leave it in a message and i'll add it!

As the collection is so diverse I am bound to leave 1 or 2 out!

I think the outcome of this poll is all too obvious - the Dreadnought will surely win. I voted for it, that tram is an icon and although I'd rather see it back in Blackpool, that is not really very realistic. I'd be quite content to have it running at Crich though! :D

My second choice would be Derby 1 I think - local car, only survivor from its system, and its a four wheel open topper that isn't red!

I thought it might end up being 59!

As for Derby 1, I want to see it running, but it's a different gauge to the rest of the crich system, supposedly (i enquired a few months ago), so would be very altered to be operable!

I would like to see Sheffield 510 restored, It's been on and off for some years now and the paint looks very tired on the top deck.

We've got so few Sheffield trams operational at the museum compared to Leeds fleet, and dare I say it Sheffield's trams look far superior (that will upset some!) It's so easy to drive, it was one of my favorites.

It needs a good repaint, and sort out the noisy gears and the spring-plank. it's build like a tank so probably doesn't need any bodywork attention yet.

We have lost 1282, 1297, 869(UDE only!) 602, 510 and with 298 on hold we have NO modern (1932+) operational trams and we are supose to be representing cars from all era's (i don't consider 331 as it's a one-off and bears no resemblance to typical modern UK trams). 510 must be the easiest to put back in service.

Do we really need another open-top servicable tram, don't get me wrong I'd love to see 59 back in service, or even just back, I just think that at the moment with LU159 in service there are better candidates, ie LCC1 as the long term project (in Blue).

But surely as our main customers are the general public that is the sort of tram they want? In Blackpool you see Joe Public just want a ride on a tram because it is an open top one. It is even the same with open top buses is it not?

It's a tricky one. Visitors definitly love open-top trams and toastracks, so I think there should be plenty of them maintained in the running fleet. However, I would also argue that Sheffield 510 and particularly Leeds 602 are VERY popular with non-enthusiast visitors, so I think they should be a priority too. A wide variety of trams is very important!

Poll

While 59 is storming into a lead with 3 votes, are there not more candidates that we could vote for other than the four listed? 59 has been restored twice in 1960 and 1976 - plenty of other trams have never been restored.

When I set up the poll, i added every unrestored tram I could find, however the interface wouldn't let me add more than what I have. I cut it down to the ones I thought would be most relevant.

For a comprehensive list, please consider joining my Yahoo! group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tramway_museum, which has a comprehensive poll in the polls section.

Thanks,
