Tramathon 2008

Hello all,

Just wondering what all your predictions are for tramcars in operation during the Tramathon.

We will almost certainly not have 1297, 510, 106, and possibly 5, but as for the others?

Well, hopefully 1622 should have been sorted by then (it's still on test!), and hopefully we should have more cars commissioned for passengers (2, 869 come to mind), and I expect that we will have out all the "favourites", 345, 399, 180, 167 etc - and with a bit of luck Blackpool 40 and Blackpool 166 may appear if they're overhauls are complete!

I would also like to see Leeds 602 out and about, however i think this is doubtful as there are not a lot of drivers who are trained to use it's VAMBAC!

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Jack

Tramathon 2008

Hi everyone,

I very much doubt we will have any cars out which need commissioning specially for the event. So here is my guess, provided crews are available:

R2, 7, 22, 40 (?), 45, 60, 68, 74, 166, 167, L180, 273, 345, 399, 812, 869, 1622, 3006, 717.

Those are nineteen cars (and I could drive all but four of them) which is not bad.

Regards

Christoph

By the way, and digressing from the original subject: How good are we compared to other museums in Europe, notably Amsterdam, Skjoldenaesholm and Wehmingen? I know we could muster about the same number of cars at Wehmingen: Neunkirchen 2, Norrköping 100, Hannover 181, Kassel 218, Hannover 236, Magdeburg 1008, Vienna 2625 and 4037, Düsseldorf 5289, trailers Kassel 511, Hannover 1023 and 1033 and Vienna 5325, works cars Bremerhaven 254, Hannover 811, Cologne 6004, and Vienna 6131 and 7504 but what about the others?

That list looks about right - I'm doubtful about Blackpool 166, and has Oporto 273 run at all since the track problems came to light? I would dearly love to see Leeds 602 running again but I'm not feeling too hopeful about it!

I'm actually thinking of giving the Tramathon a miss this year. I was pretty disapointed in last year's event, there were no works car out and the likes of 166, 602 etc. were sorely missed. Hopefully if anything more exciting is planned this year we might get a few hints beforehand that may change my mind?

The only commissioning that will happen are if 166 and 40 are out - I doubt that either will be done in April, and maybe not even May, so they will be cutting it fine!

Whether they are commissioned specially for the event or not is a different matter - if that's the case then it will be tramcars such as 602 and (maybe) 1622 which are not actually down to run yet.

Other than that I would hope to see 717 out, and perhaps even GMJ, maybe with Sheffield 15...

Anyhoo, we'll wait and see, and we'll keep an eye out in the workshop for what has been commissioned!

Out of all our lists so far, all but 2 and 273 are commissioned - 273 of course still having track problems as per 106 and 5, and 2 was in the workshop this weekend.

As for 166 and 40, well as I said if they are done in time, but I would be doubtful especially of 166 - work doesn't appear to have started yet, and Blackpool 40 is still on accomodation trucks, and going by the latest JOurnal, there are still problems with the traction motors - if you want to know more i'll let you know on the private section!

Thanks,

Jack
